The draws have been made for the men’s European A Championship and the first-ever Europeans women’s Rugby League World Cup 2025 qualifiers.

In the first-ever European women’s World Cup Qualifiers, Group A will see Wales, Greece, Turkey and the Netherlands come together, while in Group B, Ireland, Serbia, Italy and Malta will it battle out for a place in France 2025.
The top two nations in each group will play in France in 2025 in a straight shoot out.
The draws were made by Julia Lee (chair of the IRL’s Women & Girls Advisory Group) and former GB Lionesses Joanna Carr-Will, Lisa McIntosh and Michelle Hargreaves. “This feels like an historic occasion,” said McIntosh. “Who would have thought you would have nations like Malta and Turkey playing women’s rugby league in a World Cup qualifier when we started almost 30 years ago. It’s another landmark moment in and for the women’s game.”

PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE DISTRIBUTION

RUGBY LEAGUE PLAYED IN NEW REGION IN CAMEROON
Rugby league has been played for the first time in the Douala region of Cameroon. Four men’s teams, Bulls RL, Panda RL, Gorilla RL, Guepard RL, and four women’s sides, Raiders RL, Panda RL, Rock RL and Gorilla RL each contested a 9s tournament in front of over 200 fans.
Bulls took the men’s crown, defeating Gorilla 18-0 in their final, with Raiders also getting the better of Gorilla, 20-8, in the women’s decider.
Cameron national head coach, Khalil Njoya, commented: “The tournament was a great success, it was the first of its kind in the region and everyone involved loved what they saw. Although January is a tough month as everyone is just getting back to fitness after the holidays, we were able to make the Douala 9s a success and this allowed us to see what we will have to work on for the future. Next year we have the women’s MEA cup and the girls being this good so early on is telling us a lot.”
